Shepard Fairey has spent decades using art to speak out on issues like climate change and social justice. For Earth Day, we partnered with him to create something different: a moving piece of art designed for the Sphere’s massive, immersive screen. It was a chance make a visual statement that could live on the world’s biggest screen, creating a moment of awareness and action.

Using the mandala he created for the Paris climate summit as a starting point, our concept was to 'open' each shield and explore their themes through animation. Revealing 'wells' of increasingly warm layers contrasted with the cool blue of the exterior and created a sense that we were revealing messages from deep within the Earth itself; positive messages from one giant sphere to another.
